The soaring cost of gas has pushed the sale of motorcycles here in Manila and its suburbs. It didn’t take long for criminals to discover motorbikes are also excellent getaway rides. We have bag/purse-snatchers, muggers, carjackers even political assassins – all riding on motorcycles. Our local police officials are in the end of their wits how to deal with this new phenomena. Any suggestion?
I should add that traffic in Manila is always crazy, so cops in cars are no match to these thugs. Also there so many sidestreets for them to disappear in. Besides most motorbikes look the same and it would be impossible to stop every single one that look similar.
