RE-4 discharge from National Guard, barred from police work?
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009I was given an uncharacterized discharge from the National Guard with an RE-4 for being outed as being gay. I hadn’t even shipped to basic training.
I’ve been interested in joining the police force, but with an ELS and RE-4 would I be forever auto DQ’ed? Or would any hiring board ever give me a chance to explain my discharge?

Friday, December 12th, 2008I’ve been considering joining the Police Force for over two years now and have printed off numerous application forms but never actually filled them in. I’m looking to hear from people who know a Police officer or are a police officer and what they have to say on their experience of either.
I’m 21 years old (live in the UK) and wondering what advantages there are to joining at this age and whether there are disadvantages to speak of and whether anyone could give me an idea of what is required to fulfill this role.
I’m not looking to become a community support officer as it is of no interest to me.
Any thoughts would be greatly received!
