I don’t think a midget could become a police officer because the patrol cars would not be modified for his reach. Other than that, I cannot see a reason why not.

As for Leiland Chapman’s wife to be, at 4′11.5, she is plenty tall to become an officer. I know of other female officers who are just abotu that tall or maybe a touch shorter. In most departments in Texas, the height requirement was removed years ago, as a result of it being discriminatory against both females and certain races. If you want to be a cop, come on down here and you are welcome. We always need good people.

Many employers have what is called a BFOQ, or bonafide occupational qualification. This means that if an employer feels that there is a physical or mental attribute that is necessary to perform a job, then they can only hire people that meet those qualifications.

In the case of midgets or dwarves joining a police force, that would depend on the department. I would guess that, because of their height, the cars would have to be modified, and people might not take them seriously. Also, they might have difficulty overtaking a suspect. So, for these reasons, I would have to believe that midgets or dwarves cannot become a police officer.

Most police academies are their own entities… so they run separate from others.. and have different entrance requirements.

Contact the police academy you want to go to and have them mail you an entrance packet.. or have someone there pick one up for you and send it to you. That way you’ll know.

As for whether any of your military training will count toward your police officer certification.. probably not. I know, I know… you’ll be better trained than most… but state laws require that each police academy cadet receive a minimum number of hours of THEIR STATE APPROVED TRAINING PROGRAM… so there’s probably no way out of that one. Just suck it up and listen carefully… During your career, you’ll be held legally responsible for anything you do that is outside of the approved Academy training.

Finally… and I’m not trying to be mean… but you need to work on your spelling skills. THE first thing departmental recruiters look at when reviewing graduating cadets (to hire them) is their report-writing skills. They like to know how good you are with the tactical stuff… or what a great people person you are.. or how great you can drive a car or disarm a bomb… But if you can’t spell well enough to write a report that won’t make you and the department look bad on the witness stand, they won’t hire you.. no matter how good the other stuff is.

I’m not a midget but I am short 4 ft 11 1/2 inches to be exact. I always wanted a career in Law Enforcement however I have yet to find a Department yet where I meet the minimum height requirement.

you can not get in a police academt ran by a department unless they have hired you first. to get a private academy you will have to call them and ask what is needed

#1. Just call the dept you want to join and see what the requirements are, each dept is different.

#2. Police are fulltime, no part officer positions unless you become a unpaid reserve officer, each dept is different.

#3. Low ranking officers are on patrol, there is daily paperwork that varies.

#4. Females get hired just as easily as males, just not a lot apply.

#5. Police work is dangerous no matter what your gender, you never know what could happen on any given traffic stop.

I think that the police have a certain height requirement for all applicants. So little people wouldn’t be able to get into the academy, neither would people who are just short in stature.

Most police forces dropped the height requirement ages ago. As long as you could pass the physical test then yes you can qualify to become a police officer.
