If you did not commit the crimes you can go for it. They do look into your background but most pay attention to what you are, not your family.
Most departments require at least 60 semester hours of college or military service.
By the way most do not call their female officers police women anymore. Police women were usually only assigned to youth or child protection. All officers, male, female, trans gender whatever are called police officers.

if your family has a few under their belt, it has no effect on you unless you participated in some of the dirty deeds.

Your family’s actions should not affect your ability to gain employment as a police officer. Unless you have knowledge of and have helped them commit/abet the crimes.

It might be an issue if you live with them and they are currently committing crimes. If they are currently committing crimes, have open warrants that you are aware of, it will probably be an issue of your integrity and ability to enforce the law.

You can still become a police officer.

Very importantly though, you should be absolutely truthful in any written application or verbal interview during the hiring process. Background searches at my agency are very thorough, and you may end up being questioned about associations with persons (including family) who have a criminal history. Again, as long as you are honest and forthcoming on the issues and you are not hanging out while people are committing crimes, then you should be fine.
