Can one with bad credit still be accepted in to a police academy?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

I messed up my credit at a really young age. I wanted to attempt to test into a police academy. But I read somewhere that having bad credit lessens ones opportunities in being accepted. Can an individual with bad credit still become a cop ? Aren’t other factors weighed as well?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to test for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department before the summer is out. But I think I may not be able to become a cop because of dumbness on my part in my youth.

Fire Fighters, Police Force and The Military? Please Anwser?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Now this is a complicated Question!
Ok when Im 18 years Old I plan On joining The United States Army, and after those 4 years go into college and get a degree in Criminal Justice, from the go in to the Army again and TRY to join the Special Forces, From there I want to be either a Cop Or a State Trooper, but I also want to be a Fire Fighter. From what I have heard An Officer can be a part time Fire fighter and a Fire Fighter can be a part time officer.
Just Like the Police force the fire fighters have their own specialized Units. Do Troopers have that as well? If So what are they? What are the differences between Police Officers and State Trooper what are the benefits? And If you can post any other Info that would be great. Also what is Special Tactics and Weapons and what do They Do? what are there benefits?
Does having Military Training help at all?
Basically this is what I want to Do.
HighSchool- JROTC.
4 years Military, 4 years College, 4-6 Years Special Forces.
Job-Police Officer Part time Fire Fighter.

RE-4 discharge from National Guard, barred from police work?

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I was given an uncharacterized discharge from the National Guard with an RE-4 for being outed as being gay. I hadn’t even shipped to basic training.

I’ve been interested in joining the police force, but with an ELS and RE-4 would I be forever auto DQ’ed? Or would any hiring board ever give me a chance to explain my discharge?

Several general questions about joining the (U.S.) police force?

Friday, August 7th, 2009

(In advance: Sorry if these are dumb questions, I’m not familiar with the subject as is evident)

I am considering a job in law enforcement (specifically, police force) when I am older, but I am curious as to what the requirements are for becoming a police officer.

1: Is there a particular education level you have to have? (High-school, college, etc?)

2: What is the average wage of an officer? (No, I’m not considering joining because I want money, but I would still need to pay the bills!)

3: What exactly consists of police training (I forgot the proper term for it) and how long does it usually take?

4: And finally is it possible to stay in your native county if you are a policeman or are you assigned to wherever you are needed within your state?

I live in Kentucky by the way if that makes things more specific.

Thanks in advance!
