Is it possible for someone in their 40s to make it through the police academy?

Also, how much does it cost to go through the Academy or any type of police training boot camp?

If your name is Tackelberry you’re a shoe-in.

But seriously folks, yes you can make it. As for the other concerns talk to your local law enforcement agencies.

Yes it is, if your not over weight and your fit yes it can be possible.

You would need to contact the specific police academy you want to attend, as cost and requirements vary. Your age shouldn’t have any bearing on it.

depends if the agency has age restrictions. Other than that, depends on you. My ex husband is over 60 and still competes in mini triathalons.

    Yes, its possible

Yes and No…. if your fit and a good back ground you should get into most departments….

Lots of departments have max age of hiring, you will have to work your tail off in the academy…

    Good luck to you…

    Yes, you can.

Really depending on the state, my academy class had a man who was 58. He only wanted to work in the courthouse but to carry a weapon and have arrest powers he had to go to the same school as everyone else. I live in Florida and here the community colleges and vocational institutes provide academy training. They last 6 months and cost right at $5,000 when it is over. That includes books, uniforms, firearm and ammunition, range time, etc.

The academy is basically 6 days a week, sometimes 7, and you get to go home every night. Mine lasted 4pm to 10pm Mon-Fri. We jogged about 2 miles each day and did 50 or so pushups and situps, not all at once. Then we would shower and start classes. You do a lot of learning. On the weekends we went to the shooting range and the driving range.

When it was over everyone had no trouble passing state minimums, even Elson! The instructors were very personal and took special interest in making sure everyone passed.

Wherever you are you should look into the state requirements for becoming a police officer and see if it is something you think you can handle. I have heard Florida is one of the hardest places to get certified, and looking back it was a breeze. You should have no problems. Oh yeah, if you smoke…stop!

Absolutely. I work with 50 year old cops who are in better shape then the 20 something thugs we arrest.

The problem you may run into is some departments have a cut off age. Here in Ohio, many agencies will not hire you if you are past the age of 35.

Academies in Ohio cost between $2500-$4000, depends on what all they certify you in. More certs, more$

Serioously you CAN make it, but it will much harder with age, like all things. Good Luck

stay in shape and be of good moral character, the rest is gravy. Have at least $5000 in reserve.

The department I work for just sent a 40 year old man through the academy, and he did great. I’ve seen officers as old as 50 go through, and I’ve seen 21 year olds wash out. It’s all about mental and physical conditioning. I work in New England, and most department here pay their officers way through the academy, and they collect full salary while they are going. Here it’s 16 weeks.
